This usually consists of one or more spot checks that can quickly determine the primary source of water coming through a levee. There are at least two types of “piping” (water coming through a levee section). One caused by mechanical means, unmarked pipes or flood gates (weirs), the other through natural means, rodent excavations, soil lenses and or decomposing trees, root balls or other decomposing organics deep in the levee structure.

Emergency responses also are performed when there is am immediate problem that requires an immediate answer. CSI can normally arrive at an emergency site within 2 hours almost anywhere in the Sacramento – San Joaquin Delta.
