SUBSURFACE SOIL CONDUCtIVITY (LEVEE) STUDIES

Our CSI Studies Work

Subsurface Soil Conductivity studies work. They work because few factors affect soil conductivity. These factors are:

  1. construction crew at leveeMoisture content: the extent to which pores in the soil are filled with water.
  2. Soil type: sand, loam, clay, silt, peat or any combination of these.
  3. Concentration of dissolved electrolytes such as water with higher or lower salt content.
  4. Temperature and phase state of the pore water.
  5. Presence of foreign objects: wood debris, concrete, metal or plastic pipes.

All these factors affect soil conductivity. In different conditions and locations the final conductivity number or graph can be and usually is influenced differently by these factors. As the magnitude of the individual conductivity influencing factors change, the portion of their respective influence changes.

It is because CSI has been actively involved with obtaining the conductivity data, analyzing the data and following through with the specific conclusions derived from the data through excavations that has allowed CSI studies to be a valuable tool for determining potential levee problems in specific areas. The studies do evolve and change. Each change is examined repeatedly to ensure the enhancement of the study.

Finding Hidden Problems

Many of the levees in the Sacramento-San Joaquin area are over 100 years old. This means there is no first-hand construction knowledge. That’s why it’s imperative that the levees are studied, and studied by someone who knows what they are doing, as dangerous problems are almost always hidden.

Save Money, Save Lives

Levee failure always results in a loss of property, and it can result in loss of life. Levee failure almost always means millions of dollars in damage as well. Having us conduct a study of your levee can prevent this from happening.
